Holy Week Devotionals

Palm Sunday

Read: Matthew 21:1-11

Devotional

As we begin Holy Week with Palm Sunday, we step into the powerful scene of Jesus riding into Jerusalem—not on a mighty warhorse, but on a humble donkey’s colt. This moment is filled with significance, and the key figures in the story each respond to Jesus in different ways. The disciples obey his instructions, yet they don’t fully grasp the weight of what’s unfolding. The crowds cheer and wave palm branches, shouting praises, though many are just hoping that he might free them from Roman rule. The religious leaders, threatened by Jesus’ growing influence, look on with disdain. And then there is Jesus himself—riding forward with unwavering purpose, knowing that each step brings him closer to suffering, yet choosing to go because of his great love.

Though this event took place 2,000 years ago, its truth still speaks to us today. Where do you see yourself in this story? Are you like the disciples, following Jesus but not fully understanding the depth of his sacrifice? Are you in the crowd, praising him when things go well but longing for a Savior on your own terms? Or, like the religious leaders, do you find Jesus challenging your plans and comfort?

Ultimately, Jesus’ humility calls us to lay down our pride and surrender to him. Just as the people in this passage spread their cloaks before him, we are called to lay down our lives in obedience–through our words and our actions, even when his way leads to sacrifice and surrender.

And just as Zechariah’s Old Testament prophecy was fulfilled that day, we can trust that another promise will come true—Jesus will return. Until that day, we walk through life’s joys and sorrows with hope, knowing that one day all things will be made new. What a day that will be!

Experience Fulfillment in Christ

There is nothing you desire that that can not be fulfilled in Jesus. Jesus fulfilled the requirements of the Old Testament so that he can fulfill the deepest longings of our hearts.

Good Friday

Easter Sunday

On Good Friday (April 18th, 6:00 PM at 796 S Mountain Rd, Fruit Heights, UT 84037), we will pause to reflect on the cross—the moment Jesus bore our sin to bring us back to God. Through Scripture, song, and prayer, we will see how Jesus fulfilled the requirements of the law through his life and death.

Then, on Easter Sunday (April 20, 10 AM at Ascent Academy), we’ll celebrate the greatest news in history: Jesus is alive! This is a morning of joyful worship, gospel hope, and discovering the implications of his resurrection.

Wherever you are in your faith journey, you are welcome here. Come and see what Easter is all about.
