Discipleship Groups at King’s Cross Church are designed to be a space for you to both be discipled and learn how to make disciples yourself. Discipleship Groups are groups of 4 or less people of the same gender who are led by a DG leader. In these groups you will learn the basics of following Jesus including how to read the Bible, how to pray and how to live as a follower of Jesus in every aspect of your life. The goal is by the end of the two years that your group will meet, you will be confident in making disciples of Jesus anywhere you go. Scroll down to learn more about how it works.

Who are Discipleship Groups for?

Discipleship Groups are for people who want to learn how to follow Jesus in every aspect of their lives. To be a Christian is to be a disciple of Jesus who makes more disciples. The culmination of Jesus’ earthy ministry is something we call the great commission in Matthew 28:18-20. Through Jesus’ death and resurrection we are saved and brought into relationship and partnership with Jesus. He sends us to everyone around us, all the way to around the world to share the gospel and make disciples. At King’s Cross Church we want to be a people who are confident in making disciples and the only way to do that is to be discipled ourselves.

What do Discipleship Groups do?

Every Discipleship Group meets for at least two years. Disciples formation not just information and formation takes time, intentionality, relationship and modeling. We understand that real lasting discipleship is a slow process of God transforming us and shaping us to be more like Jesus. Being a part of a DG will take time, commitment and honesty because that is what is required to follow Jesus. Within the DG you will participate in the following activities: You will engage God’s word together through a five day reading plan, pray for one another, share the gospel with people that don’t know Jesus, learn what Christians have believed about God, ourselves and the world from the Bible and learn how to live as a follower of Jesus in your marriage, workplace, school, home, neighborhood and anywhere else God places you.

How do I Join a Discipleship Group?

Every February and September we start new Discipleship Groups. Discipleship Groups consist of one DG leader and up to three DG members of the same gender. If you are interested in joining at DG you can come to one of our interest meetings to find our more information and to sign up to be a part of a DG. These meeting will be held on the following dates directly after the Sunday gathering.

The gospel invites us into a community that God is forming in His Church. We are not meant to live for Jesus in isolation but in fellowship with others. We believe that true flourishing is in Jesus’ call to be disciples and to make disciples of others, a process that thrives in community. At King’s Cross Church, our hope is that you will discover genuine, biblical community, friendship, and support, and that you will also be equipped to extend to others.

Why should I Join A Group?

Discipleship happens at the intersection of relationship and partnership with Jesus.

Spiritual Formation is a Community Project

We don’t go to a gas station to buy jewelry, that is not the right thing to do in that space. Different spaces are intended for different purposes. We prioritize three spaces where spiritual formation can happen within community: Sunday Gatherings, Community Groups, and Discipleship Groups. Each space creates a different environment to aid in our discipleship. As we engage in these different spaces we give ourselves to a 3,2,1 Rhythm for Formation.

3, 2, 1 Rhythm

  • We know that life happens—kids get sick, we go out of town, but we strive to gather with the Church for Sunday worship at least 3 times a month. As we gather together as community, sing the gospel over one another, confess our sins, sit under the teaching of God’s word, and receive communion the Holy Spirit is supernaturally at work within us, conforming us to the image of Christ.

  • Discipleship Groups are an intentional intimate space for us to do the hard work of undoing cultural formation and giving ourselves to spiritual formation. Discipleship Groups are micro groups of 2-5 same-sexed people. In these group we open up our lives and practice spiritual habits (prayer, bible study, etc.), confess sin, and remind ourselves of our identity in Christ. This is the perfect space to safely grow our relationship with Jesus.

  • Community groups are safe place for us to do life together and into invite outsiders in. Community Groups are medium sized mixed-gendered multi-generational groups in which we share a meal, pray, and reach out. Community Groups provide a framework around partnering with Jesus in his Kingdom work. As we pray for our community, and we ask God to reveal how we can engage with it in order to share Jesus with others. Then, we do it.

As we give ourselves to these monthly rhythms our affections for Christ will deepen our partnership with him will increase and we will slowly come into greater conformation of the Image of God.
